Rockwell is a parody of Roswell, New Mexico. It is also most likely a nod to how rock and roll first became popular in the 1950s. It may also be a nod to the film The Iron Giant, which is set in the small town of Rockwell, also taking place in the 1950s.

Santa Modesta is a parody of Modesto and Santa Monica, California.

Area 42 is a parody of Area 51, Nevada.

Union Town is a parody of Norfolk, Virginia. The "Union" part of the name is also most likely a nod to the fact it's where a lot of union workers reside, because of the waterside areas.

Capitol City is a parody of Washington, D.C.

The Octagon is a parody of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
The mission 'Destination Earth!' is a reference to the film Destination Moon.

During the mission 'Attack Of The 50 ft. President', after Silhouette is defeated, the final newspaper headline reads 'President Found Alive!' However, in the bottom corner it reads 'Giant lizard seen off the coast of Japan'. This is a reference to Godzilla, the ancient Japanese mythical monster.

The Majestic agency is a parody of the alleged Men In Black and Majestic-12 organisations. The Men In Black were a shady government agency that warned/threatened alien and U.F.O witnesses to remain tight-lipped on what they had seen. Pox refrains from making this obvious by referring to them as “the dudes in dark” and “men in… really, really dark brown.” Before dying, Silhouette mentions Majestic-12, an alleged secret committee of scientists and government agents that were connected to aliens and sightings of unidentified flying objects originally formed in 1947. In the 2020 remake, within the Furon handbook of the archives section of the Mothership, the 'Basic Majestic' tutorial contains a quote from Gastro which reads "Whatever would Mr. Pox and Mr. Crypto do if the men in very dark brown weren't always discussin' their plans?" Once again, a character refuses to call them the "Men In Black". During the mission 'Mr. Crypto Goes To Capitol City', Pox even goes so far as to refer to them as the Men In Black - but only in Spanish - when he calls them "Los Hombres De Negro!" In the 2020 remake, a similar gag occurs during the 'Desert Dash' challenge in Area 42 when Pox says "Don't let the heat or the les Hommes en noir get to you." 'Les Hommes en noir' unsurprisingly is French for 'the men in black'.
The J.R Dobbs building in Rockwell is a reference to J.R "Bob" Dobbs, the figurehead of the parody religion Church of the Subgenius.

General Armquist bears more than a passing resemblance to General Douglas MacArthur, down to his trademark aviators and pipe.

This line is also repeated by a voice actor extra in the archives bonus footage 'Goofy Screenshots And V.O'. The extra also adds "If I follow standard insertion procedures everything should be fine." This is also a reference to a phrase from Half-Life: "Now, now, if you follow standard insertion procedures, everything will be fine."

This is a reference to the film Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb, which features a character in the military obsessed with protecting his bodily fluids.

If scanned, a suburban male may think "I've got to keep up with the Joneses. If only I could remember who the Joneses are." This is a reference to the idiom phrase “keeping up with the Joneses” which means to competitively keep up with one’s neighbours, both socially and financially.

This is a reference to the radio drama anthology series The Mercury Theatre On The Air which, on the 30th of October 1938, broadcast the H.G Wells story The War Of The Worlds, narrated by Orson Welles. The broadcast was actually believed by listeners, allegedly causing mass hysteria, though the scale of the panic has been disputed as it was reported the programme had relatively few listeners.
The narrator for the 2004 E3 trailer has a voice almost identical to Rod Serling's. Rod Serling is best known for his role as the host and narrator of the 1950s/60s television show The Twilight Zone, which featured episodes that frequently shared themes of science-fiction and extra-terrestrial activity.
During the archives video 'Selling The Furon', a promotional poster for Pandemic Studios is shown. Next to the Pandemic logo are the words "The jobs are out there". This is a reference to the tagline "The truth is out there" from the television show The X-Files. In the 2020 remake, the host more closely resembles Konig's appearance.

During the mission 'Teenage Zombies From Outer Space', at the beginning, Crypto says "Sounded like secret agent man was taking orders from the one in goggles." This is a reference to the song Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers.

When playing one of the arcade games on the Fourth Ring of Furon, Crypto may quip "The price is wrong, human" when throwing a human. This is a reference to the television show The Price Is Right.
During the mission 'Crypto Does Data', when Crypto is heading toward the Funky Town dome, he tells Pox he was reading over an old Majestic file and points out that they made a mistake in calling the Furon homeworld "Gorta". Pox then corrects him by saying that it is the Furon capital city that is named Gorta. This is a reference back to the 'Making Of Movie' video found in the Archives section of the Mothership in the first game, under the 'Furon Propaganda' category. In the video, the military general mistakenly says that the Furons hail from the planet Gorta.
During the mission 'Crypto Does Data', when the Librarian requests that Crypto bring him his human crush, Crypto informs him that "Earth girls are so easy". This is a reference to the film Earth Girls Are Easy.
When alerted to Crypto's presence, a Funky Town dome male may yell "Is that Kenny Baker?" This is a reference to the midget actor's short height, much like Crypto's.

The outer rim on the Fourth Ring Of Furon is a possible reference to the outer rim from the Star Wars films.
During the mission 'A Pox-A-Lips Now', after taking out the first Nexo saucer outside Emperor Meningitis's palace, Crypto gleefully cries "Got him, I got him!" to which Pox warns "Great, Crypto, don't get cocky." This is a reference to a scene from the film Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, with identical dialogue.
During the mission 'A-Pox-A-Lips Now', when Crypto is trying to persuade the humans to rally against Emperor Meningitis, if the player chooses to start a rally cry, Crypto shouts "Attica, Attica!" This is a reference to an iconic scene from the film Dog Day Afternoon.

During the mission 'Welcome Back, Crypto!' when Crypto is destroying the nodes with the saucer, he growls "You firin' at me? You firin' at me?" This is a reference to a famous quote from the film Taxi Driver: "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me?"

After applying one of the 'unlock content' codes on the menu, Crypto can wear a yellow tracksuit that is identical to the one Bruce Lee famously donned in the film Game Of Death.
The Furon record collectibles found in Shen Long are, as proven by the game's manual, a reference to the Dropa stones/discs that many ufologists claim are extra-terrestrial, due to the fact that they are thousands of years old and bear foreign etchings.
The fact that Furons are intolerable to water (and thus have insufficient equipment to protect themselves from large amounts of it) is similar to the aliens in the film Signs.

During the mission 'Revenge Is A Dish Best Served With Duck Sauce', when Crypto arrives on the barge, he chants "Saxon... come out and play..." This is a reference to the film The Warriors, which features an iconic scene of a character teasing the Warriors gang by saying "Warriors... come out to play..."
Travis Skeever (from the mission 'Redneck Radio') is a possible parody of Travis Walton, a real Arizona man who was allegedly abducted by aliens in real-life. This is made likely due to the fact his supposed incident occurred in the 1970s, which is when this game is set. Skeever is also paranoid of extra-terrestrials as it is made obvious he has been abducted before, like Travis Walton. Pox also refers to him as "that local we probed several years ago" - possibly nodding to the abduction date which was in 1975. The story - and his book The Walton Experience - was made into the film Fire In The Sky. When Crypto is tasked with abducting him again, he suggests waking Skeever up and scaring him with "those tall skinny alien suits with the big black eyes like last time". This is also very similar to the film Fire In The Sky which has a scene where Travis Walton awakens inside an alien spaceship and comes across alien space-suits.
The fact that Furon blood is shown to be a luminescent green (as shown when the Master is killed) may be a possible reference to the alien from the film Predator, which had green, glowing blood.
