Gastroenteritis-999, or simply Gastro, was the Furon janitor and cook aboard the Mothership, who was killed in 1969 when the Soviet Union fired a nuclear missile at the Mothership.
Overview[]
Gastro, despite his current lowly role, was once a soldier of the Furon Empire. He was originally cloned sometime around the Martian Wars [1] and spent his early life fighting against the Blisk. He had such adventures as once getting briefly trapped holobobed as a Martian due to early faulty holobob techniques[2] as well as messing with recruits by trying to convince them to Transmog the limited atmosphere of Mars as a form of hazing.[3] Both on Mars and potentially over the remainder of his career, Gastro managed to get cloned at least 30,000 times, to the point he effectively "broke" the numerical system used to count lives by the Furons.[4]
At some point, he joined Orthopox in serving aboard the Mothership and was later discharged from service. However, due to thoughts implanted in him by Pox, he was compelled to remain aboard. Gastro was dimly aware he was not there of his own free will, but nonetheless seemed unable to resist Pox's mental influence.[5] It is presumably at this point he became the janitor and cook aboard the ship. He spends most of his time cleaning up after Orthopox and his experiments, which he seems to have a love-hate relationship with.[6][7] At some point, he was partially grafted into what appears to be an oversized HoloPox Unit, which he attached his tools to and presumably used to get around the ship.
Gastro came to Earth with Orthopox and Crypto-137 in 1959. By this time, he possessed a large music collection that had "soul"; e.g. he had music by “Blind Willy Syphilis.” In 1969, he was killed when the KGB destroyed the Mothership and downloaded his consciousness into a Holopox Unit that resembled the large one he was previously attached to. Unlike Pox's unit, this one had weapons which he used to great effect on Crypto's enemies when he was found in Takoshima.
Gastro Gun[]
Destroy All Humans! 2[]
Gastro's armed Holopox Unit was deployed with the Gastro Gun. Gastro automatically fired on any enemy within the vicinity with his rapid fire blasters, or, after he was upgraded, his explosive charge. After an unspecified amount of time, Gastro deactivated by retreating into his Holopox Unit and then detonated himself, which was similar to the Ion Detonator's explosion. After he was upgraded, Gastro followed Crypto around.
Destroy All Humans! 2 Reprobed[]
Gastro's Holopox unit now has the ability to follow Crypto by default, and will always follow him instead of acting on his own. Instead of detonating, his Holopox unit will retreat when his duration expires.
The Gastro Gun now holds multiple ammo units. Using the gun while Gastro is not active will deploy him for the cost of 1 ammo. While he is active, the gun's functionality changes to lock onto an enemy for Gastro to attack. Locking onto an enemy commands Gastro to continuously attack that enemy for the cost of 1 ammo and can be maintained for about 5 seconds while the fire button is held.

Trivia[]
- Gastro was voiced by Phil Morris.
- Despite being an important background character in Destroy All Humans! 2, Gastro did not appear in Path of the Furon. This may have been due to his overall conception as a weapon.
- Despite only being a janitor and cook, Gastro was cloned more than Crypto before he became a weapon.
- It was unknown what happened to Gastro after the extinction of the Blisk. It could be assumed that he was put into stasis by Pox and was forgotten.
- Gastro was one of the only weapons, other than the Zap-O-Matic, that was effective at doing sufficient damage to Blisk.
- Gastro makes a cameo in in the Remake, appearing in the archives and providing his own commentary on various subjects.
